Modern elopements are an institution in their own right. Gone are the days of sneaking off to the town hall, you in your best dress and him in his best suit to get married in front of your best friends with little else in the mix. Today’s elopements include gorgeous wedding gowns, stunning bouquets, and, of course professional photographers to preserve the beauty of the day. In other words, you don’t have to skimp on the detail just because you’re eloping! As always, the bride, Cindy, is here today to share her best hindsight advice for planning her wedding in one of the most gorgeous places in the nation: Yellowstone National Park. Scroll down for more…
Why a mountain wedding?
Our inspiration came from our love of road trips and adventure. My husband and I took a road trip a few years ago from TN out west. We explored Utah, Colorado, Wyoming, and Montana. We made so many great memories out there. When it was time for us to pick a place to get married there was no question that we wanted it to be out west. We wanted to keep things simple so we decided to recreate our road trip and drive to our wedding destination. Our immediate family flew out and spent a few days with us which was nice because they got to explore and have their own adventure as well.
What were some personal details you incorporated?
One personal detail I incorporated was to have my florist (Labellum) incorporate fresh herbs into my bouquet and floral arrangements. I love to cook and wanted the arrangements to reflect that and to have an earthy feel. They were perfect.
Your favorite moment of the day.
When I got to the chapel and there were elk grazing in the grass outside! It was classic.
Things you’re glad you did.
- I’m glad I kept it small.
- I’m glad I got a great photographer.
- I’m glad we did something unique to us.
The best piece of wedding advice I got
Spend more time focusing on the marriage than my wedding day. Even though we didn’t spend a lot of time planning, our wedding was still very personal and unique to us. I wouldn’t change anything about it.
How did you choose your vendors?
I chose my photographer first by doing research on the internet. I found a few photographers in the area and looked at their work online. I loved Fran Ze’s style–her personality jumped out at me through her photos. After talking to her on the phone, I knew she was the one for us.
Fran then recommended the florist (Labellum)–someone who had done flower arrangements for other weddings she had photographed. Their portfolio and experience spoke for itself–stunning. I feel extremely lucky to have found both Fran Ze and Labellum from over 2000 miles away!
