Happy Fourth of July! In celebration of Independence Day in the US, I have a pretty red, white and blue inspiration board for you. I love the crisp and classic feel of a red, white and blue color palette. This preppy inspiration board pairs pretty florals with classic stripes to create a fun but sophisticated look that is as fresh as a summer breeze.
Help your guests stay cool and feel refreshed with a watermelon granita. This sweet summer treat is essentially a fancy snow cone and is lovely way to help keep your guests cool on a warm summer’s day. Serve them as a pre-ceremony treat at an outdoor wedding or as a palette cleanser after dinner. Either way, your guests will love the delicate flavor and festive color of these enchanting granitas.
Directions for Watermelon Granitas: Lemon Stripes, who is Italian and spent her summers in Tuscany, made these sweet treats for a bbq she hosted. You simply take cubed watermelon, organic cane sugar and fresh lime juice and puree in a blender. Pour the puree into a backing pan, cover and freeze for an hour. Then stir, mash and rake up the frozen layer. Cover and freeze for another 30 minutes and repeat the mashing. Repeat the process once more and spoon into bowls and garnish with mint. Tips: Granitas can be made up to two days ahead of serving. For an adult treat, spike it with vodka or add Tequila and Grand Marnier for a margarita-inspired granita.
