About the Couple
Zach and Megan met in college at Kansas State University in 2001. They became friends through some common activities and mutual friends. At one point, Zach took Megan to his freshman formal for his fraternity. After college, they went their separate ways – Megan to Florida, Zach to Iowa. In 2010, Megan moved to Denver, Colorado to start a new job and be closer to her family. A few years later, Zach was planning a trip to Denver in preparation to move there. When he realized Megan was in Denver, he reached out to her for some advice on his trip. He didn’t realize that she would take the job of “tour guide” very seriously!! For the next year and a half, Megan showed him all the great sights of Denver. She then decided to expand her “tour guide” status to show him Milan, Italy where they currently live.
About the Wedding
Planning from such a distance can be daunting and L Elizabeth Events was so grateful to have been able to help them in achieving their destination wedding in the Rockies. Blending styles from both places they love the most – Italy and Colorado.
There is an adage in Colorado that says “If you don’t like the weather, wait 10 minutes”. This is an especially true statement in the mountains. It can be hot one minute with calm winds or raining the next with very gusty winds. That’s one of the things I love the most about the mountains (besides the incredible beauty) and why I specialize in mountain weddings. It is always an adventure!
I think this statement was very true for Megan and Zach’s late July wedding in Summit County.
The ceremony was held on Dillon Point at the edge of Lake Dillon. At over 9,000 feet above sea level, the weather can change dramatically throughout the day. As the clouds rolled in for an afternoon storm the wind kicked up quite briskly about 30 minutes before the ceremony’s start time. The soft fabric touches on the arbor were whishing like sails on a ship, but the weather simply added to the layered details. Adding texture and color to the sky. The guests were all smiles as they arrived to the Italian kissed aisle. Wine barrels and lush arrangements greeted guests and live musicians’ string plucks carried in the wind.
On lookers cheered and one in particular rang a ship’s bell in celebration as the couple kissed, finalizing their “I dos”.
As shuttles arrived to the Silverthorne Pavilion, guests entered the bright and cheerful space greeted by details and touches from around the world, celebrating the couple’s travels.
A custom graphic in the shape of a tree, blossomed leaves of purple, green, and silver fingerprints left from their friends and family. Personalized notes to the couple were collected on post cards gathered during their travels throughout Europe, and placed into a memory book.
The room was romantically lit with lavender up lighting and market lights twinkling overhead. The seating chart was an antique map of the world displaying the cities to which they had traveled. Inspiring the names of their tables and capturing a moment of them in each place with a romantic picture. This couple’s love for adventure and traveling was evident in each detail of their wedding.
This wedding blended, perfectly, their love for Italy, traveling, and the Rocky Mountains. Featuring CO Craft beers and Italian wines, guests gathered around pewter detailed tables adorning purple and cream floral centerpieces. Touches of eucalyptus and lavender were tucked in each napkin. The bride and groom were surrounded by their wedding party as they gathered at a community table set centered amongst all their guests. Guests were served a delightful family style meal inspired by Italy, sharing and passing plates while laughing and telling stories. Dessert took this romantic wedding one step further by offering guests the much loved Italian cannoli.
As the evening’s celebrations continued, the dance floor got lively. Zach twirled his mother out onto the dance floor and he began to swing her about the room, smiles beaming from both their faces. This night was certainly one to remember!
