Modern Mountain Inspiration: Gray and Yellow

Here is the second installment of my series of Yellow and Gray inspiration. One of my readers asked me to help find gray and yellow inspiration for her friend's upcoming wedding. At first I thought this might be tricky. As a mountain wedding blogger, I tend toward the rustic, whimsical, and handmade. When I think of yellow and gray, I think, modern, urban, artsy. But I thought I was up to the challenge, especially since the Yosemite wedding I posted about last week had me totally rethinking what constitutes a mountain wedding. Her wedding was so modern and bold.

Boy was I wrong about Yellow and Gray inspiration being difficult to fit within a mountain setting. I have found so much inspiration that I carved it up into eight full inspitation boards! But today, I decided to go with my initial modern idea. So here goes my take on modern mountain with yellow and gray. You'll notice that for me modern in the mountains means playing with texture. OK, OK, I'll admit, I'm totally obsessed by texture lately–whether in the context of mountains or not. Still, I think the rough texture of the succulents, applique, and billy buttons helps the clean lines and industrial gray color palette make better sense in a rural or rustic mountain (or back yard) setting.

Modern Yellow and Gray Inspiration

Here are some of my comments from my Style Circle Blog on Style Me Pretty:

I've said it before and I'll say it again, yellow and gray is an amazingly versatile color palette.  Today I hope to delight you with a modern inspiration board.

This board is an exercise in contrast. Gray dominates while pale yellows accent. Here and there a bright yellow pops, providing a bit of edge to the whole palette.  The clean, modern lines of square containers and the square cake contrast with the rough texture of the succulents, billy buttons, and one shoulder ruffled gown.
