If you love mountains and nature the way I do, the name John Muir will always inspire you. And when the Mountainside Team saw these John Muir inspired wedding ideas from Alexandra Knight Photography, all was right in the world.
Alexandra shares her inspiration behind this look: “John Muir was an inspirational explorer and his wonderful writing about the lands he saw have been a long standing inspiration of mine. Some of his most famous passages can serve as perfect wedding inspiration for couples wanting to plan their own outdoor wedding. Muir’s quotes about the world and the forest served as our inspiration for this bridal editorial, featuring custom details perfect for a couple planning a unique northwest elopement or larger wedding under a beautiful canopy of trees.”
More about the design and inspiration:
Some of John Muir’s most famous passages have inspired adventurers and outdoor lovers for decades, including many modern couples planning their own unique wedding. We used Muir’s love of the forest and the world to inspire us in designing a unique bridal editorial look that includes a delicate and bohemian wedding dress, florals with woodsy tones and bold color to stand out against the trees and moss, along with desserts that echo the minimal look of our bride’s style. In the Pacific Northwest there is a perfect place to hold an intimate wedding ceremony around every corner, which truly embraces the beautiful places that John Muir wrote about so eloquently many years ago.
Rich Textures and Details Inspired by Nature
Smashing Petals created an absolutely perfect bouquet for our forest-loving bride, rich with textures and hues that stand out against the trees and moss in the forest, unique blooms that aren’t often used in bridal bouquets, paired perfectly with matching hand-died silk ribbons for a little extra pop of color. We intentionally chose a bouquet that wasn’t too big and wasn’t too small so that our adventurous bride could make it anywhere in the forest without having to carry around something too heavy or cumbersome.
South Fork Cake Company made an epic double dark chocolate cake with minimal decor to match the look of our forest locations. Sprigs of color in the florals and ribbon are another great contrast against the dark color of the buttercream and the woodsy tones abound.
Mountainside Bridal Fashion
Our bride is inspired by the outdoors and as a result needs a dress and bridal look that is practical for our outdoor setting. A bohemian style dress creates some beautiful texture and a flattering bridal look without worrying about a train or long skirt that would have otherwise drug in the dirt. The bride wore comfortable mountain boots, sometimes visible under the lower layers of her dress, another nod to the practical outdoor style she wanted to embrace. Simple hair and jewelry decisions further add to that outdoor, bohemian look without detracting from the inspiration from John Muir and our outdoor locations.
We are in love with this concept of your wedding design being inspired by an influential person such as John Muir. What do you think? Would you do the same for your own wedding?
