Your guests are going to sit at a table with people they’ve never met. Give them something better to do than read the menu twice.
A wedding crossword puzzle does three jobs at once. It breaks the ice, it keeps the quiet ones happy during cocktail hour, and it tells your story without a slideshow. Your college roommate learns where you got engaged. Your grandmother learns the dog’s name. Everybody argues over 7 Down.
It also costs you nothing. Use the free wedding crossword puzzle maker below, type in your words, and print.

How to Make a Wedding Crossword Puzzle in 5 Minutes
- Pick 10 to 15 answers. Names, places, dates, inside jokes. Single words work best.
- Write a clue for each. Short and specific. “Where the proposal happened” beats “A special place.”
- Type them into the maker. One per line, answer first, then a colon, then the clue.
- Hit “Make my puzzle.” Don’t love the shape? Hit “Try another layout” until you do.
- Print. You get the puzzle on one page and the answer key on the next.
One rule: every answer has to share at least one letter with another answer. If a word won’t fit, the maker tells you which one. Swap it and go again.

Where to Put Your Wedding Crossword Puzzle

First Row: From Susan Stripling via Elizabeth Anne Designs | From Ecopolitain Bride | From Tana Photography via Style Me Pretty | Second Row: From Chelsea Nicole via Style Me Pretty
- On the back of the ceremony program. Guests are seated early with nothing to do. Hand them a pencil.
- At each place setting. One per guest, or one per table to solve as a team.
- In the welcome bag. Great for destination weddings and long shuttle rides up the mountain.
- At cocktail hour. Print it poster size and let guests fill it in with a marker.
- At the rehearsal dinner. Smaller crowd, harder clues.
- In a newspaper-style program. If you’re doing a wedding newspaper, the crossword belongs on the back page.
Make it a game. First table to finish wins the centerpiece, a bottle of wine, or the first trip to the dessert table.
Print Tips
- Size: a full letter page (8.5 x 11) is the easiest to read and write on. Half pages work for 10 words or fewer.
- Paper: uncoated cardstock. Pencil and pen both skip on glossy paper.
- Pencils: put them on the table. Nobody brings a pen to a wedding.
- Answer key: tape one under a chair at each table, or hand it to the DJ to read out.
- Word count: 10 to 15 answers fits a single page with room for your names and date.

Wedding Crossword Puzzle FAQ
Is the wedding crossword maker free?
Yes. No sign-up, no email, no watermark. Make as many as you want.
How many words should a wedding crossword have?
10 to 15. Fewer than 8 feels thin. More than 20 gets crowded and takes guests too long to finish.
Can I use names with spaces, like “Lake Tahoe”?
Yes. Type it normally. The maker removes the space and tells guests the letter count, like (4, 5).
Can I print it on my wedding stationery?
Yes. Print straight onto your own paper, or screenshot the puzzle and hand it to your stationer to match your fonts and colors.
What if one of my words won’t fit?
Every answer needs to share a letter with another answer. Try another layout first. If it still won’t fit, swap it for a longer word or a different clue.
Can I make a word search instead?
A word search is easier for kids and big groups. A crossword tells more of your story, because every clue is a little fact about you two.
