Why a Mountain Wedding?

Our mountain wedding because that is how we met and how we spend most of our free time. The location provided a setting that was natural and comfortable to the both of us along with our guests.

What are three things you’re glad you did?

Getting married on a Friday made me nervous at first with not knowing if people would be able to attend. Ended up most people made a whole weekend of it. Since no one was from the area, they chose to stay an additional night to explore the surrounding area. One of the guest bag items was the local city magazine so guest could check out the local restaurants and attractions.  For us, we had a “mini moon” at The Gralyn Estate and was able to meet with  several guests Saturday morning for breakfast. With us moving to Germany, the main priority was spending as much time as possible with our friends and families.  I was happy with our choice of entertainment. We had Jukebox Rehab play during our ceremony as well as to kick off our reception. They also helped coordinate with a DJ to provide music for the wedding party to enter the reception area, first dances, and cutting of  the cake.

What are 3 things you wished you hadn’t done or hadn’t worried about?

I put a lot of time into planning the wedding. But I wouldn’t change that for anything. It gave me so many opportunities to spend time with my mom and talk on the phone.

How did you find your vendors?

My mom found most of my vendors while searching on the internet. We found our bakery by walking in a cute shop just looking for a sugar rush. After having a few of the sweet treats we inquired about wedding cakes. Jukebox Rehab was suggested by Hannah, at JOLO. They had played there at the venue before and Hannah has them booked for her October wedding. After Hannah suggested the band, we decided to check out their local show at Bulls Tavern. I ordered an Uber for myself, my mom, and Nana. My Nana was turning 80 and this was her first Uber ride. It was so much fun going out together as 3 generations.

What’s your biggest piece of advice for other couples planning a mountain wedding?

My advice to anyone planning a Mountain Wedding is to know the time the sun will go down and know how your venue will be lit. Proper lighting for your guest as well as to get great photos during the reception portion of your big day.  Besides that, pick a spot that you will want to visit years to come. I am so happy that our venue is a restaurant and winery so my husband and I can go grab dinner for our anniversary or any other special celebrations.  And lastly, just as your friends and family surround you, the mountains surround you on your wedding day. There is no better feeling that to be surrounded by love on your wedding day. If the mountains are calling, then you must go!
