Andrea and Jason were married on a crisp September day with the sun shining and the water sparkling on Vermont’s Lake Champlain. Since the trees of the neighboring Adirondack and Green Mountains were just beginning to change color, the couple embraced the hues of the season, incorporating deep reds, orange, and yellow wherever they could. Cat Cutillo Photography & Video made the most of the gorgeous scenery at Basin Harbor Club and these photos will have you ready to pack your bags for your own cozy weekend at the lake!
How did you meet?
We met right out of college at work – it was both of our first jobs!
What is your proposal story?
It was the beginning of summer and I had just gotten home from work and Jason asked if I wanted to go the lake and play fetch with our dog. He said he would bring some snacks and drinks and we could relax on the waterfront. I imagined I would be getting dirty with the dog in the water, so I left a tank top on that I had spilled some of my lunch on during the day. Jason tried EVERYTHING to get me to change without giving it away. Finally I was convinced when he said we could get some sunset pictures of the two of us. But I still just put on a different t-shirt and jeans that had holes in the knees. We get to the lake and we’re playing with our dog, eating and drinking and then he grabs my hand and starts saying all these nice things and before I know it he’s down on one knee! Of course I said yes instantly! When he stood up, he said, “Smile, we’re being photographed!”. We now have beautiful sunset pictures capturing our engagement and get a kick out of my outfit every time we look at them!
What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?
We really wanted a venue where our guests could stay onsite and we could have events through the weekend. We had a bonfire party with all guests the night before the wedding and a brunch the morning after the wedding with all guests.
What were your favorite parts of the day?
Our first dance. We took dance lessons and I forgot all the moves under pressure, thank goodness Jason did not and he lead us through!
Why a Mountain Wedding?
Vermont is so beautiful and so many of our guests were traveling from out of state, so we wanted to show them the beauty of the two mountain ranges you can see – the Adirondack and Green Mountains!
What’s your biggest piece of advice for other couples planning a mountain wedding?
For couples planning a mountain wedding, take advantage of the natural beauty of the venue and don’t waste your money on excess decorations.
