Chic Colorado Simplicity In the Mountains

Davis and Taylor first met as student-athletes at the University of Colorado, where Davis played football and Taylor played volleyball. However, they truly connected during their Christian fellowship meetings during the week. Davis proposed to Taylor while on a trip to his hometown of Evergreen. During their engagement celebration, Davis revealed he had made sure to fly home to visit Taylor’s parents in Reno, Nevada. What was concealed originally as a fishing trip had turned out to be of the utmost importance for Taylor, as Davis had asked her parents for their blessing over their engagement. Choosing to highlight the mountains where they fell in love, Davis and Taylor knew their love of Colorado would be elevated by their iconic wedding venue. The Broadmoor is made for a harmonious blend of picturesque Colorado scenery and iconic luxury resort amenities. Painted in a subtle shade of sandy pink, the hotel provided a stylish backdrop for photos of the bridal party and the couple as they posed on the lawn. Bridesmaids wore an array of taupes and pinks in trendy mix-and-match slip-style gowns. A simple outdoor ceremony was hosted along the water as guests looked out along the lake and the rocky hillsides of Colorado. Taylor’s gown by Galia Lahav included an incredible corseted bodice and figure-hugging silhouette. It was detailed in exquisite three-dimensional floral lace applique with the prettiest floral strap details. As effortless as their wedding day, Taylor paired her look with a chic full-length veil and a miniature white floral bouquet. Moving indoors, the ballroom space was adorned with marble floors and golden details of vintage wallpaper. Inspired by Davis’ position in the Air Force, the couple created an aviation-themed escort card display of blue paper planes with calligraphy handwritten by the bride’s mother. The finishing touch, a neon sign that read “love is in the air,” set the tone for a glamorous evening with a lighthearted mountain spirit.

How did you meet?

Davis and I were both student-athletes at The University of Colorado, where Davis was on the football team and I was on the volleyball team. We knew each other from events in the athletic department, but we got to know each other more at Fellowship of Christian Athlete meetings on Wednesday nights. After a few months, Davis asked me on our first date.

What is your proposal story?

We were engaged in June of 2022 in Davis’ home town, Evergreen, and celebrated later that evening with both of our families. After the engagement, Davis shared that he took a trip to see my parents in Reno, Nevada a few months prior to the engagement to ask for their blessing. At the time I thought he was on a fishing trip with his brother, Evan, and I was shocked that he pulled it off! It means the world to me that Davis put so much time and thought into making our engagement special.

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding.

We spent a lot of time talking about what was most important to us on our wedding day, and then began looking for inspiration on Pinterest and in wedding magazines. We wanted our wedding to be elegant and tasteful, while incorporating Colorado mountain details and personal touches. It was important to us that our wedding was reflective of our love story, and who we are as a couple.

Davis surprised me with a weekend away at The Broadmoor when we first started dating, and from that moment on, we always thought it would be the perfect place for us to get married.

Tell us about your attire choices.

Given that The Broadmoor is an incredibly elegant venue, we wanted our attire to reflect that. The wedding was black tie optional.

I wore a Galia Lahav couture gown, which I found at The Little White Dress in Denver. I paired it with Stuart Weiztman shoes, and kept my accessories minimal since the dress had ornate details.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning?

One of our favorite wedding moments on wedding day was surprising our guests with an appearance of Chip the Buffalo, our college mascot. When Chip arrived, the bartenders started serving drinks in “CU Buffs” tailgate cups to create a fun, after-party atmosphere.

Davis is a pilot and is currently in pilot training for the Air Force, so our escort card display was aviation themed. My mom hand wrote the escort cards in her beautiful calligraphy, which was very special to us.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

On our wedding morning, Davis brought me a coffee and we went on a walk together. While this is not considered traditional, we are glad we took the time to spend a few moments with each other before the festivities began. This calmed our nerves and left us feeling excited that our wedding day had finally arrived!

We loved hearing each other’s vows, which we wrote ourselves.

The dance party – SO fun!

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

When you start to feel overwhelmed or stressed during the planning process, take a step back and remember what’s most important – your love for one another.

We would recommend that you build special moments into your wedding day to enjoy time together, or time with loved ones.
