Casual Elegant Breckenridge Wedding at Ten Mile Station

This gorgeous casual elegant Breckenridge wedding, captured by IN photography, is set in one of my favorite venues: Ten Mile Station. Kelsey + Mark added elegant details to this classically rustic venue and transformed it into a graceful and stylish mountain fete.

Why did you choose the Mountains for your wedding?

My family has come up to the Colorado mountains since I was a child. My now-husband and I have been to Breckenridge about a dozen times, so it’s a special place to us. Breckenridge also offered a more casual wedding location–and one of the most beautiful–for the kind of outdoor wedding we wanted. It was also a place most of our friends had never been to, and we loved showing them around the hiking trails.

And with my family being in North Carolina’s and Mark’s family being in Los Angeles, Colorado was a perfect middle ground.

What was your theme for your wedding?

My wedding planner called it “rustic elegance”…so we’ll go with that.

Where did you find your inspiration?

Much of what inspired us about how we wanted our wedding to look came from our favorite parts of our friends’ weddings. And for the most part, Ten Mile Station is so beautiful we wanted to leave it the way it was.

How did you choose to personalize your wedding?

We wrote our own ceremony, which was fun because I’m Lutheran and Mark is Jewish. Other than that, Ten Mile Station is a very intimate environment, which made the entire night feel very personal to us.

What was your favorite part of the reception?

Our Maid/Matron of Honor and Best Man speeches are something we still talk about frequently. We also really enjoyed our photo booth, which left us with a great and very funny album. And of course, we loved our entrance and getting to walk in and see our friends and families.

What are three things you’re super glad you did?

  1. Got married outside (we love the pictures).
  2. Having the ceremony and reception site at one place (we considered getting married in a church in Breckenridge).
  3. We had the entire wedding party stay in one cabin, which was a blast.

What was the biggest challenge in planning your mountain wedding and how did you overcome it?

The logistics of getting everyone from the hotels to Ten Mile Station and back down. Every wedding we had been to used big buses to get everyone around, and we quickly found out that wasn’t possible up in the mountains, which scared us. But we had to trust that Summit Express knew what they were talking about and that they could get it done with passenger vans. Once we let go of that decision it was a big relief, and it all worked out perfectly.

How did you find and choose your vendors?

Our wedding planner Emily Campbell gave us some great recommendations.

What is your best piece of advice to other mountain brides who are planning their weddings?

Two things. First, get up there a few days early to enjoy the town and take care of last minute stuff. Second, don’t worry about the weather. It’ll all work out.
