Any captivating view of the Blue Ridge Mountains seriously puts some pep in our step. The faint azure-hued rolling hills and dipping valleys are jam-packed with so much drama and history, and we’re so happy that Amy and Matthew added their own bit of history to this landscape. Kathryn Ivy Photography snapped away, bringing us photos of the lush Irvine Estate, Amy and Matthew’s extremely cute pupper Cooper, and a white-and-green palette complementary of all of the natural surroundings. Simpler is sometimes better, and in this case, this understated elegance is exactly what the doctor ordered.
Why a Mountain Wedding?
We chose our venue because of the unbelievable mountain views, and it felt the most like “us” as a couple. We love being outdoors and it was the perfect backdrop to start our life as a new family.
What are three things you’re glad you did?
I’m glad we invested in the venue and photographer (ours were hands-down the best!); I’m glad we made it feel personal to us, rather than keeping with traditions and others’ expectations, and we’re glad we got to include so many of our family, friends, and our pup Cooper throughout the weekend.
What are 3 things you wished you hadn’t done or hadn’t worried about?
There isn’t anything I regret or wished I could have done differently! It was a lot of work to plan without a wedding planner/coordinator, but it was all worth it. I briefly worried about the weather when it was supposed to storm all day, but it turned into a perfect weekend.
How did you find your vendors?
I found vendors through word of mouth, tons of research online, and lots of patience.
What’s your biggest piece of advice for other couples planning a mountain wedding?
Enjoy it! We absolutely loved having our wedding in the mountains, it felt the most “us” – let the background/setting help guide your decisions and look/feel of the day.
