Planning a 2018 wedding?
You’ re likely wondering what the year will offer in terms of flowers, style, themes, colors, menus and more. We polled our panel of experts for the 2018 International Wedding Trend Report and asked them to predict what will be hot in the coming months, and we are so excited to share! Here are a few of the top trends you can expect to see in 2018:
Unique Table Styles and Coverings
Tables will take a turn towards something a little more unique this year according to Founder & Director of Georgie Rayner of Georgeous, Simply Georgeous Occasions. Instead of standard round or long tables, couples are looking for a combination of shaped tables as well as some clothed and some raw.
We are huge fans of using an oval as something a little different among the round, square and rectangular tables, says Rayner. While raw, natural wooden tables will continue to be popular, when linens are present, they will be layered and consist of different textural fabrics, says Katie Smee, Director of George & Smee Style. You might see heavy velvets alongside light cottons and natural linen, and denim washes are making a comeback, Smee adds.
Natural and Botanical Themes
Where the Wild Things Are
The Wild and Whimsical (theme) is hugely popular, according to Simon Nickell, Owner of Simon Nickell Design. It can lend itself to a whole range of settings such as marquees (tents), barns and historic venues.
Pure Romance
Another type of theme that is going to be huge next year is The Secret Garden with big flowers and
butterflies, adds Cindy Salgado, Founder of Cindy Salgado Wedding Design & Events. Romantic, dramatic hanging installations and overflowing greenery, which rose to popularity in 2017, will also continue to be super-hot.
Fine Art
This style of wedding, introduced to the bridal world over the past couple of years, has hit the mainstream now and is here to stay, according to Liz Linkleter, Owner & Creative Director of Liz Linkleter Events. The style features romantic florals, calligraphy, handmade and torn paper, billowing silk chiffon on the tables and gold candlesticks, all in a muted and elegant color palette.
Informal Menus
Gin is In
The marriage of a love of fine foods and the rising popularity of certain high-quality liquors is having a major influence on wedding dining. Gin & Tonic menus with different botanical garnishes and craft gins are continuing to get more and more popular, suggests Lucy Barrow, Director of Mix & Twist Bartending. Weddings even have Pimp Your G&T; stations where guests can have fun with tasting and comparing different combinations, says Barrow!
There is so much to look forward to in 2018! What a great time to be planning a wedding. We wish you
the best for your dream event and look forward to seeing how the years top trends come together on your perfect day!
