Lindsey + Cody stood on a rock, three waterfalls cascading behind them and their children and closest friends and family members. The mist from the falls filled the air and dampened their skin. The leaves on the trees proudly boasted shades of autumnal oranges, reds, and yellows. After a heartfelt ceremony, guests were treated to a casual elegant reception on a rustic porch. There are few things more Southern than a well-planned and beautiful gathering on an airy porch! Candi Leonard Photography Catpured every lovely detail perfectly!

Why a Mountain Wedding?

We love the mountains. They are one of God’s greatest creations, natural work of art. We love nature. Cool springs and clean mountain air is just something we enjoy. As a kid, we vacationed in the mountains and I dreamed of a mountain wedding. I put those thoughts aside for many many years and one morning I just woke up after trying to make a big wedding in the city work and it just clicked. Our love is natural, God created and organic…and that’s what our wedding needed to me. It just seemed right. He, of course, loved the idea! All I could picture is the water roaring in the background, the stone giving a neutral pallet and then us hiking to our I dos. It just all fell into place.

Tell us about your attire choices.

Well, when I found Candi I knew she was going to knock it out of the park. I wanted to dress a little differently than we normally would. As a mom, I really have no reason to get all dolled up to the nines. She suggested rent the runway…..and I RAN with it. I chose the most sparky ensemble I could find. Cody, who is definitely a manly man, agreed to wear dress shoes and no hat y’all (that’s big).

What were your favorite parts of the day? (memories and stories)

I loved reading Cody’s sweet note. He had picked a rose and delivered it with my gift, a bracket with my new initials! I never in a million years thought he’d tear up, but I was met at the ceremony site with a shaky groom and tear-filled eyes. If I ever had any doubt that he was just rolling with the motions that changed it. I truly felt loved. Then when he said vows to our children, we both lost it. It is a moment I will remember forever.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Don’t be afraid to put any crazy detail plans you have into action. So many times I thought I was being too extra, but they really helped pull my day together. Nothing is too crazy. Get those pretty stamps, track down those gold candlesticks, and heck, spray paint makes anything gold haahaaaaa!  Splurge for a photographer and videographer they are what make your memories last forever. I already can’t tell you certain parts of my day, but Candi captured those moments forever.

What are three things you’re glad you did?

  • Kept it small
  • Personally made details
  • Went and visited our site beforehand, even though it was technically an elopement! (We went months prior to scope out the perfect waterfall)

What are 3 things you wished you hadn’t done or hadn’t worried about?

Well I honestly only have one. I wish I wouldn’t have worried what others thought about my dress so much. I loved my dress but there are a few other things I would have changed about it.  Everything else was literally the way I wanted it BECAUSE I worried about them, if that makes any sense.

How did you find your vendors?

I found all my vendors on Social Media. Photographer specifically on Instagram. I loved her style.

What’s your biggest piece of advice for other couples planning a mountain wedding?

Do it in the fall, the colors were unbeatable and gave us the most dreamy moody pallet.
