Emily and Alex couldn’t have had a more perfect proposal, but it wasn’t without a few obstacles. Both of their families were headed on a getaway to his parents’ lake house in northwest Idaho, but Alex’s flight was canceled at the last moment. After the groom flashed Emily’s engagement ring at the ticket agents, they immediately booked him for the next flight. A few days later, the couple took a romantic boat ride out to the middle of the lake, where he proposed. “Both families were waiting with eager anticipation and champagne,” the duo says.
When they pictured their wedding, the couple knew that Swiftwater Cellars in Washington’s Cascade Mountains would be the best fit for their big day. They also wanted to incorporate Alex’s favorite peanut butter chocolate dessert and succulents for Emily to commemorate her hometown of Scottsdale, Arizona. With a background of changing leaves and a first look that included personal letters they’d written to each other, both say it’s hard to choose their favorite memories from the day.
Both Emily and Alex made sure to focus on their must-haves; for them, the location, photography and honeymoon were top priorities. “Our advice would be don’t stress the small details,” Emily says. “Prioritize what is important to you and spend your time planning those.”
