Why a Mountain Wedding?

Paul and I met in the Sierra Nevada mountains in CA during 07-08 winter season at Mammoth Mountain. We love the outdoors and we love the mountains. We thought a mountain wedding was the best way to celebrate our relationship and union.

Your budget.

$14,000 give or take

Where did you find your inspiration?

The internet and everything I didn’t like about other weddings.

Biggest splurge

The photographer

Biggest savings:

Making all the crafts, doing all the planning, and “floral” decorations with friends and family!

What were some personal details you incorporated?

We wrote our own ceremony and vows. I made sure that everyone was individual with special boutonniere and attendant gifts, I wore jewelry from both of my grandmothers. Our officiant was one of Paul’s best friends growing up.

Your favorite moment of the day.

Seeing Paul when I started walking down the aisle, reading my vows, and giving him a big kiss on the lips!

Three things you’re glad you did.

  1. I’m glad I found some old fungi rotten tree trunk chunks and made my cupcake tree.
  2. I’m glad we wrote our ceremony and vows.
  3. I’m glad we served our meal family style. one more! I’m glad we had a photo booth that was operated by turtles.

Anything you wish you hadn’t done?

I wish I asked someone else to be my second bridesmaid. So I would have had the all three attendants there by my side.

What was the best piece of wedding advice you got?

Don’t worry about it, this is your day do whatever you want.

Anything you wish you hadn’t worried about?

The guest list

Anything You wish you had known about sooner rather than later?

I wish I knew that we actually wanted our ceremony and stuff filmed so we could watch everything and hear our voices. Good thing people used their phones and fancy cameras.

How did you choose your vendors?

We toured loads of venues in the smokies and just picked the one that we couldn’t find anything to complain about, a big perk they have a great caterer who worked with me and my special meal requests. I referred to by Maletron of Honor for help with my photographer and make-up artist, he’s a professional photographer so I trusted his judgement. I chose the alteration shop that was least biased and didn’t argue with me about taking in my corset.

What is your very best advice to other mountain brides?

Pick out and think about every detail so that you have amazing pictures because that will be your memory. Use an online checklist! Go by the checklist don’t procrastinate! Don’t use silly hats or silly glasses to cover up your lovely guests faces in your photo booth. :)

DIY

I made everything… “mercury glass” votives, cupcake tree, bouquets and boutonniere, cake topper, small leaf cake stand (I don’t think we used that though), Pompom hanging decorations, ribbon wands, sand ceremony vessel, string art, photo booth backdrop and props, my dog’s ring barer outfit, my veil. I wore jewelry from my grandmothers who have passed away so that I could keep them with me on my special day.

DIY Suppliers: | Florals and decor: Whaley’s whittling shop for flowers and decor | Cupcake tree: Coghill sawyers to make slabs for my cupcake tree | Cake stand: Mighty mud if you wanna do ceramic stuff like a cake stand
