I have another amazing wedding captured by Eric Asistin. Is he not your newest favorite Lake Tahoe wedding photographer? I know he’s mine! That’s why, like the last wedding Eric captured, I had to break this into two. There’s just too many beautiful details, I had to share them all. Today you’ll get Staci’s Hindsight advice (below) and tomorrow, you’ll get my favorite steal-worthy details. (Hint: I love emotional details as well as regular details and stuff.) So stay tuned!
Why a Mountain Wedding?
Both Max and I are just in love with nature. We are always going on hikes and camping with our friends. We thought Tahoe would be the perfect backdrop for our wedding weekend.
Where did you find your inspiration?
Pinterest was just becoming popular when we started planning our wedding. It proved to be such a great tool to find and keep all of my ideas in one place. We also wanted to compliment our setting, not overwhelm it.
Three things you wish you had done?
Looking back, everything really was amazing.
- The only thing I wish I could have done is be better organized on the wedding day. It would have been really helpful to have a written list of all of the little details. This would have made it much easier to delegate tasks, as opposed to trying to delegate by memory.
Things we are glad that we did:
- I’m glad we had a wedding weekend, instead of a wedding day. We were able to spend time with everyone who came to celebrate with us.
- I’m glad we didn’t overdo it on the decorations. Granlibakken is such a beautiful place and we wanted to highlight that. We got dried lavender from a farm in Napa, and supplemented with other flowers from our neighborhood.
- I’m glad we added personal touches. Instead of place cards, we hand stamped Jenga blocks. Jenga plays a big role in how my husband and I met, and is also the name of our dog! We also had cloths lines of photos of us growing up, us as a couple, and tons of pictures of our family and friends. This was the first thing that the guests saw (it lined the walkway to our site) and it acted as a conversation starter for people who didn’t know each other
- Doughnuts. We are not cake people, we love doughnuts.
- We didn’t keep a lot of wedding traditions; no bouquet toss, cake cutting, garter toss, etc. We just wanted to dance and felt like that stuff always breaks things up too much.
- Our band was amazing, they are good friends of ours and old band-mates of my husband. We had such a blast dancing, and my husband even made a cameo to serenade me with Elton John’s Love Song and Otis Redding’s Too Hard to Handle!!
What is your very best hindsight advice?
I know this is what every blog past bride says but they all say it because it is the most important thing: enjoy your day! All of the little details won’t matter 1, 5, 10, 20 years from now; what you will remember is having everyone you love in one place and having a blast together.
