Although this Colorado wedding is more adjacent to the mountains than in the mountains, every single detail screams classic rustic mountain wedding.

Why a Mountain Wedding?

I got married in Colorado but not in the mountains. My husband and I were both born and raised in small agricultural communities so getting married in an old barn seemed perfect, especially since we now live on a farm and raise cattle.

Where did you find your inspiration?

Magazines; pinterest; and interests we both shared (like pie!)

What were some personal details you incorporated?

For starters my husband likes pie so we decided to do a pie bar instead of just a traditional cake at the reception. His grandma also raises peacocks on her farm so we tied in some of the peacock feathers into center pieces and flowers. Old windows were found around the farm to use as picture frames and old wood laying around was used to cut up and make into J+W centerpieces and into signs around the venue.

Your favorite moment of the day.

Seeing my husband for the first time. He usually has a lot to say and he had lost all words :) After that I got to see our little boy, Landon in his tux. They were so handsome!

Three things you’re glad you did.

  • Hire ShutterChic photography. Tori Aaker did an amazing job capturing our day. I couldn’t remember some of the things I did and luckily it is all documented now for me to look at over and over and to remember how wonderful the day was.
  • I’m also glad that I had an outdoor wedding. I was so lucky and had a beautiful 80 degree day. It also allowed for more seating.
  • Finally I’m glad that I used pie plates for the dinner. It allowed for less clean-up because they were disposable and looked adorable with the country theme and pie bar :)

Anything you wish you hadn’t done?

Worried so much :) I had wonderful family and friends who made sure everything was taken care of for me.
What was the best piece of wedding advice you got? Not to worry about what other people thought and to make my wedding look/feel the way my husband and I wanted it to. Pinterest is wonderful but it is also hard to live up to wedding expectations these days :)

What piece of wedding planing advice do you wish you followed?

The piece of advice where those close to me said I shouldn’t worry so much. It truly did turn out just perfect for us.
Anything you wish you hadn’t worried about? The seating! Less people came than what we thought according to RSVP’s and people just found spots to mingle when there weren’t enough seats at the dance.

Anything You wish you had known about sooner rather than later?

Our DJ ended up backing out on us three days before the wedding due to a death in the family but he had a replacement DJ for us. He did an ok job, but a heads up that he was handicapped and unable to play music during the ceremony would have been nice to know just so I could have found an extra helper to help him out.

How did you choose your vendors?

A lot of our vendors were business owners that I or my husband knew growing up in our local communities.
What is your very best advice to other mountain brides? The engagement process isn’t as fun for your groom ( or you ) if you are spending countless hours stressing. Don’t forget to enjoy the process :)
