Outdoor Vail Colorado Wedding

Fall colors and a light-hearted joyful mood made this wedding lovely! Susanna and Seth met working at a local church in Eagle. As they dated and got engaged, they decided they wanted their very first kiss to be on their wedding day! Susanna & Seth along with all their family and friends were very down to earth. The wedding party wore all different types of Vans with their formal wear. Susanna also wore a silver necklace with the coordinates of the ceremony location and simple red stud earrings. They had an outdoor ceremony on the grass at Bearcat Stables. With their faith being a big part of their lives, they prayed with each of their wedding parties separately before the big event. They also incorporated worship and communion into their ceremony. We went to a nearby golf course in a private residence for their couple photos. The golf course overlooked Vail valley and the mountains. Fall colors spread across the hillsides behind us and made for an amazing backdrop for the photos. But these two totally stole the show. After their first kiss during the ceremony, they were so excited to be snuggly. They both had such big smiles and big hearts. You can tell they are perfect for each other.

How did you meet?

We met in the young adult’s Bible study group at our church.

What is your proposal story?

After a Taco Tuesday dinner (one of our favorite date nights) we hiked to a beautiful lookout at sunset. Seth said I love you for the first time (Susanna had asked him to wait to say it until this moment) and got down on one knee. The ring was in a leather ring box that Seth had made.

Tell us a little a bit about your wedding (your vision, color, style, and location choices).

We wanted a short engagement, so it meant we would have a fall wedding, which fit perfectly with our vision to have an outdoor wedding. We didn’t have to plan too much for decor because the fall leaves and landscape did most of the work. To go with the fall colors, we loved slate blue and deep red palates that we had seen on Pinterest, which was the inspiration for the flowers and the bridal party attire.

Tell us about your attire choices.

Susanna chose her dress because it reminded her of her ballet days and it was fun and different from other dresses. Seth wanted to keep it simple and skipped the jacket. We would have wanted to go barefoot but the field at the venue was not too friendly on bare feet so we opted for one of our favorite shoes-Vans! Susanna designed Hera custom to be her “something blue”.

What was the most important to the two of you while planning? Was there anything that you chose to splurge on or skip?

FOOD! We bonded over food (especially Mexican food) in the early days of our relationship. A family from our church makes the very best salsa and we asked them to cater for us.

What were your favorite parts of the day?

It was so special bringing together people from both of our lives and having them together in one space. We also saved our first kiss for our wedding day. There was a lot of anticipation and excitement leading up to that moment and it was worth the wait!

Tell us about your wedding flowers.

Rancho Verde Flowers specializes in creations using local flowers so they fit beautifully with the landscape and had a beautiful and rustic look. She grew dahlias special because of the deep red color we wanted in the arrangements.

Tell us about your wedding cake.

Susanna is gluten free and Rise Above Bakery specializes in gluten free baked goods. We had chocolate and carrot cake cupcakes for our guests and a small carrot cake for us.

What did you do for favors?

Fall in the mountains gets chilly at night so we provided our guests with fuzzy blankets with a custom embroidery to keep them warm and to take home. Everyone tells us how much they love it!

Please describe any DIY, handmade, or personal details.

A good friend of ours painted watercolor animals and plants to serve as table markers. We have some of them framed in our home now. Seth made the cover for our guest book using leather.

Did you include any family heirlooms or special traditions?

Susanna wore earrings that belonged to her late grandmother.

Do you have any advice for couples planning their weddings now?

Decide on a few things that are most important to you and make sure they are done right. After that, find a group who you trust to focus on the details and other decisions. It’s way too overwhelming to think about everything yourself!

Why a mountain wedding? What’s your biggest piece of advice for other couples planning a mountain wedding?

The mountains is where we met and fell in love and our community here has been so important to us throughout our relationship. The mountains and the landscape here are so beautiful that you can save a lot of decorations and let nature be the star!
