Love in a Jar | Mason Jar Cookie Company Review

You know I LOVE cookie favors for a wedding. Cookies are tasty. Cookies are nostalgic of the sweetest times in life. Most people like cookies, and you can customize cookies to say something about who you are. Mountains Bride, with a deep and abiding love for the classic mason jar, I love cookies in a jar! So it was with great pleasure that I decided to review The Mason Jar Cookie Company’s 8 oz Signature Wedding Collection cookie in a jar. From ordering my own signature blend online, to getting a perfectly packaged box in the mail, to the ease of baking what amounted to the Ultimate Cookie, my experience with the Mason Jar Cookie Company has been delightful!

Mason Jar Cookies

The Run down

The blend I chose is inspired by G.O.R.P., which I always thought stood for Good Old-fashioned Raisins and Peanuts, but Hubs believes it stands for Granola, Oatmeal, Raisines, and Peanuts. A quick look on Wikipedia confirms that I’m right, because if it’s on Wikipedia it must be correct, right?

Now that we’ve established that I’m right, the blend starts with a peanut butter base with added peanut butter chips, M&Ms, and Rasinettes. Freaking Yum! The directions were simple and used a minimum of ingredients from my pantry.

Anyway, here’s what I got:

Pros

  • Beautiful packaging.
  • Easy to make.
  • Makes a dozen cookies, which was perfect for just the two of us.
  • 100% customizable.
  • Perfect party favor for bridesmaids luncheons, bridal shower, engagement party, and, of course, your wedding.

Cons

  • This isn’t a big deal, but I noticed the brown sugar had dried out slightly and become hard, making it necessary to break it up and try to crumble it evenly throughout the mix. The cookies came out delicious regardless, just make sure to break up you brown sugar into the finest powder you can if you find it has dried out.
  • Price. At $9-$10 is on the higher end for favors. However, if you’re as in love with these as I am, there are still ways to incorporate this lovely gift in to your day. The minimum order is 20, which is perfect for an engagement or rehearsal party favor. Or you can put these in OOT bags. If you have a big family of cooks and bakers, like mine, you can also gift cookies in a jar to your VIPs along with a pretty wooden spoon and measuring cup kit.

Tips and tricks

Crumble dried out brown sugar

  • When you combine the wet and dry ingredients, don’t use your mixer. Combine them by hand so you don;t completely destroy your M&Ms
  • Don’t worry if your brown sugar dried out. Simply take the time to break it up into fine powder and incorporate. Your cookies will turn out fine.
  • I baked at 8,000 ft above sea level and made no adjustments for high altitude. The cookies turned out great!
