Why a Mountain Wedding?
Matthew and I met while attending college at California State University, Chico. We moved into the same apartment complex on the same day and that is where our love story began. On Memorial Day weekend at my Family’s Cabin on Donner Lake, he quietly asked my parents permission to marry me. They of course said yes. Matthew Proposed on July 4th 2012 on the Dock of our Family Cabin on Donner lake right before the firework show.
Where did you find your inspiration?
Lake Tahoe is the most magical place in the world, and when deciding where to get married, Matthew and I couldn’t think of a better place. We wanted our wedding to be a destination fun family reunion. The first time we stepped foot in the West Shore Café and Inn we just knew. The WSC has the most beautiful views of Lake Tahoe, while being able to utilize the amazing property, both inside and out. It has such a homey, upscale feel, while not being stuffy and formal.
What were some personal details you incorporated?
When planning my wedding, I knew that I wanted to incorporate my favorite colors: Pink Coral, Peach and blush tones. I refer to my wedding as a Pinterest Perfect wedding. I truly utilized Pinterest and wedding blogs for my inspiration. I knew early on that I wanted our wedding to have a vintage feel. I wanted to have vintage picture frames with chalkboard signs inset in the vintage frames. I hunted at local antique stores and found and painted all 15 vintage frames. I worked with Chico Printing to have the faux chalkboard signs printed.
One of the things I am most proud of was the Picture Frame that stood behind Matthew and I during the Ceremony. I purchased and painted Vintage Victorian Crown Molding and Hand Made that frame. I was told over and over again that it would work and I was able to prove everyone wrong. It was truly a dream come true.
It was really important to Matthew and I to do something unique during our ceremony. Pastor Bryan Larson led us in a toast before the ceremony was over. Our guest loved this touch and it was really meaningful for Matthew and I.
Our most vivid memories of the wedding were the beautiful full moon and watching our family and friends truly enjoy themselves. Also, during the sunset dinner, we were able to look out at the lake and it was truly breathtaking.
All out of town guests we provided fun gift/snack bags in their rooms, but at the wedding we provided hand stamped photo booth picture strip envelopes. The maid of honor purchased the envelopes from etsy and hand stamped them in a peach personalized stamp.
Some other important touches were the floral getting ready robes that I gave to my wedding party and Mother of Bride and Groom.
My hubby as a wedding gift purchased the necklace and earrings that I wore. He surprised me with them at the Rehearsal Dinner. My something Borrowed was a handkerchief that my Grandmother presented to me. She was given it by her mother in law on her wedding day over 50 years ago. She will present it to every granddaughter on our wedding day. My something Old was a white and silver beaded clutch.
What music did you select for your wedding?
- Down the Aisle: Marry Me by Train
- Processional I’m Yours by Jason Mraz
- 1st Dance: I wont give up by Jason Mraz
- Father Daughter Dance: What a Wonderful World by Louis Armstrong
We wanted the music to be very relaxed and Island Like. Brian Greenwalt from Music and More Entertainment has the best playlist. Our guests still talk about the music that was played during the dinner.
Tell us about those gorgeous dresses!
Bridesmaid Dresses were from Donna Morgan. I have always been in love with the Donna Morgan Bridesmaid dresses for their whimsical look. I had been searching for months for a coral bridesmaid dress but the colors were not right. The when Donna Morgan Released the Pink Coral Dress, It was like everything was coming together. All the bridesmaids wore the Morgan Dress in Pink Coral and the Maid of Honor wore Morgan in peach Fuzz. It was the most perfect color combination ever. The dresses were flattering on all my ladies and they looked beautiful!
