Laidback Lakeside Wedding at Beaver Cove, Maine

Adrienne and Eben’s laidback lakeside wedding perfectly reflected their down to earth, fun personalities. They chose Beaver Cove, Maine for their wedding venue, where Eben grew up vacationing with his family.

Adrienne’s wore a handmade vintage lace gown from Blue Eyed Boutique. She chose a delicate flower crown, and loose long braid for her hair. Eben and his men were in classic L.L.Bean apparel; the perfect choice for a Maine lakeside wedding.

Their florals were a mixture of delicate blush peonies, daisies, sweet william, snap dragon, campanula, and bupleurum. They said their lakeside “I do’s” under Eben’s handmade rustic birch arbor with the Maine mountains as their backdrop.

During their cocktail hour guests were encouraged to play Jenga games, canoe at their wedding waterfront, snap some photos in their DIY photo booth, and try their tasty homemade specialty drinks! KAngell Photography captured every sweet moment and detail.

Why did you choose the Mountains for your wedding?

My husband and I have always been big hikers and lake people. When we decided to get married there was no doubt in our mind that it would happen at Moosehead, it was deciding where we could make that happen that came into question. Moosehead Lake is a beautiful lake surrounded by many mountains we have spent lots of down time hiking, it’s so perfect they were able to be captured as apart of our big day!

Wedding day theme:

Is laid back a theme? My first commitment to myself in planning my wedding was to not let myself or my family get stressed and to make sure our guests had a great time. This let me focus on my dress or the photographer or the caterer (the big important things) rather than making sure everything matched to a T. Our napkins were borrowed from many aunts and my mother in law, the flowers for the centerpieces were gather by little cousins on the morning of, etc. It was a collection of effort that turned our theme into a shabby chic sort of style, and I loved every piece of it!

Where did you find your inspiration?

Pinterest is a life saver for weddings, whatever your style may be! I tried to work a lot with what was in season and what was available in the area and used Pinterest to help me make it work into a wedding style!

How did you choose to personalize your wedding?

Really everything was personalized. So much was borrowed and so many hands went into helping, it was really a family event. My favorite personalized item at our wedding was our wedding favor, a cd of our favorite music for all of our guests to listen to on their drive home. Many of our guests drove at least 2 hours to join us, so we knew even for those two hours it would be something they’d actually use. We received so many compliments after the fact. I still love to listen to and smile.

What was your favorite part of the reception?

This is a hard question to answer! I literally loved everything. It was perfect. I loved having every person we loved right there at our favorite place in the world. I love the dancing. I loved the giant Jenga game my husband made that brought so many different friends together. I loved the weather. I loved the speeches. Truly, every aspect was great!!

What are three things you’re super glad you did?

  1. Not sweating the small stuff! Most of it is small stuff!
  2. Choosing just family for the bridal parties
  3. Keeping the flowers and food local, it made it very genuine to the area.

Anything you wished you hadn’t worried about?

So many decorations, in the grand scheme I could have toned it back and no one would have noticed.

What was the biggest challenge in planning your mountain wedding and how did you overcome it?

As much of a blessing as going to other weddings and scrolling through other weddings can be, it can be overwhelming to try and keep up with that. I struggled often with staying true to my style and my ultimate goal. It turned out perfect in the end, but I had to have a lot of talks with myself about keeping it real.

How did you find and choose your vendors?

We were so limited because of the area. It’s really not close to anything, the closest city is two hours. Our photographer was from about 3 hours away, but was happy to drive, and it was so worth it. And our caterer was from the area but I don’t think I could have found a better caterer anywhere! She was amazing!! So we were really lucky with that. We were really lucky that what was available was wonderful anyway! Sometimes chance has a way of working it all out.

What is your best piece of advice to other mountain brides who are planning their weddings?

Stay true to yourself and your style, and truly don’t spend a second fretting over whether these two blues match, or whatever it may be. Your family and friends are there for you, they really don’t care what your center pieces look like, or how many pleats the flower girl has in her dress. Make sure you feel great, and let the rest of it work out. You are there to get married to your best friend, don’t cloud it with stress :)
