Envelope Liner Deux 14

Do-it-yourself envelope liners are a quick and easy way to personalize your wedding stationery and to have the most control over the design of your wedding. This project is especially great for smaller, more intimate weddings, and special occasions like “Will You Be My Bridesmaid” cards, engagement parties and bridal showers.

Step 1: Find and Download Digital Papers

For this tutorial, I used Digital Floral Paper from Creative Market. It’s a fresh and modern floral-inspired suite with strong graphic touches. I think it’s the perfect mix of organic and graphic, ad the color palette is perfectly vintage.

You can also design your own.

Step 2: Print Your Digital Papers

1 Print Envelope Liner 1

I use an Epson XP-830. I like it because it prints photo-quality images and has a back feeder (for other wedding related projects like printing napkin belly band menus.)

Digital papers are typically 12″x12″ square, which is the size of a large sheet of decorative scrapbooking paper. I simply made a 8.5″x 11″ canvas in photoshop so it would feed from my letter tray on my printer. You can also use Word or Pages and drag the digital print into a regular “letter” document.

Make sure you’re printing at 300 ppi on a premium paper. I used Epson Matte Presentation paper for this project.

Step 2: Deconstruct the Envelop to Make a Template

First carefully pull your envelope apart and expand it. You may want to steam it or carefully use a letter opener if the glue is stubborn. Once you have the envelop expanded, carefully cut away the “wings” leaving the base and flap.

Step 3: Create a Stronger Template with Cardboard

Once your paper template is created from the envelop, it’s time to make a sturdier template. Trace the outline of your paper template onto cardboard. Then cut with a metal ruler and X-acto knife or razor blade. Be careful and take your time with this part. A sloppy template will result in a sloppy envelope liner.

Step 4: Trace and Cut Paper From Template

First, trace an outline of your template onto your decorative paper. Then, with a metal ruler and X-acto knife, carefully cut along your trace lines. Again, take your time to line everything up properly to ensure the perfect fit and a clean skillful appearance. You may also opt to use a paper trimmer. I prefer the Fiskars 12″ Inch Trimmer because it has a wire along the cut path that you can line up with your trace lines for perfect cuts.

Step 5: Insert, score and secure the envelope liner

Once the liner is cut, insert it into your envelope, score at the fold line and secure with double sided tape. Voila! You have perfectly customized envelop liners that are totally unique to you and your style.
