Build Your Wedding Website | Part 1 Discovery

What Goes into a Wedding Website

Wedding websites are crucial tools of communication for modern couples. At the most basic level, they tell your guests who you are as a couple: your love story, your engagement story, and your wedding plans. But your wedding website can also be an important planning tool for your guests, letting them know what accommodations are available, what things there are to do, and your wedding day (or weekend) timeline.

In this first video I’ve teamed up with Wix.com to show you how to lay a strong foundation for an awesome wedding website. It all starts with figuring out what you will feature in yours.

Step 1: Decide what to include in your Wedding Website

Your wedding guest list will likely include people you haven’t yet met–distant cousins on his side or his old college roommate– and it will likely include people who don’t know each–your great Aunt may not have met your best friend and Maid of Honor. A wedding website is a place where your guests can learn more about you as a couple, as well as find out more about the VIPs in your life. Here is some common information couples include in their wedding website. See the video below for more details.

  • Your Love Story
  • A Little About Each of You
  • Family Information
  • Photos
  • The Bridal Party
  • Wedding Song Playlist
  • Wedding Inspiration
  • Guest Accommodations + Local Attractions
  • Registry Info
  • Extras: Social Media, Videos, guest book, interactive widgets

Step 2: Get Inspired

One way to figure out what you want to include in your wedding website is to look at other couples’ sites. Wix has an amazing sample website page that showcases real websites. Take a look at how other people use Wix website templates, and get inspired! While not all websites on the page are wedding websites, you can get some ideas for what is possible. Here are a few of my favorite wedding websites on Wix:

Step 3: Organize Yourself

Once you know what you want to include in your wedding website, get organized. Seriously, before you even pick out a template. Take the time to write out the content for each page in a separate document. Compile all of your pictures for each page and name them in a way that will allow you to find each pages’ photos quickly.       See the video below for more details.
