This lovely, down-to-earth, vintage-inspired Asheville wedding took place at the Crest Pavilion. The Crest Pavilion offers gorgeous mountain views and a built-in Plan B for rain and weather. Carolyn Scott was on hand to capture every amazing detail on the day, from the pretty decor to every last emotion.  Don’t for get to swoon over that gorgeous wedding cake by Tiffany’s Baking Co. And, of course, Kaylene agreed to share her best hindsight wedding advice. Enjoy!

Kaylene + Brandon Asheville NC September 14, 2013

Why a Mountain Wedding?

We have always loved the Blue Ridge mountains and their breathtaking views. When we got engaged, we decided to do a destination wedding, but wanted to choose a location that would be feasible for our families and friends to attend. Asheville offers activities for a wide variety of interests, from hiking to sight seeing to amazing restaurants and more. We knew our guests would love their time there!

Where did you find your inspiration?

Mostly Pinterest

What were some personal details you incorporated?

  • My husband’s father officiated our ceremony, which made it feel more personal for us.
  • I also surprised my husband with a groom’s cake sculpted to look like our dog. Our baker did a fantastic job, and the look on Brandon’s face when he first saw it was priceless!

Your favorite moment of the day.

We had a private moment with just the two of us right before we were announced at the reception and had our first dance. It was perfect just to have some time alone and take everything in.

Three things you’re glad you did.

  1. Choosing a venue with a good rain contingency plan. We wanted our ceremony outside (and it was), but there was a good back-up plan in case there was rain (and there was, for a few minutes as guests arrived, but it cleared).
  2. Hiring a band instead of a DJ, mostly due to the venue space (it had a large stage and was a large, open pavilion).
  3. I’m glad we provided transportation for guests who wanted it to and from the venue, since everyone was from out of town and there was a narrow, windy road up to the venue. We used school buses through a local transportation company. Although I can’t say how easy it was for the guests, I haven’t heard any complaints and everyone seemed to appreciate the option.

Anything you wish you hadn’t done?

Call me an optimist, but I can’t think of anything

What was the best piece of wedding advice you got?

To relax the day of the wedding and take time to cherish the moments. There’s not much you have left to do the day of the wedding, so sit back and enjoy all of your hard planning!

Anything you wish you hadn’t worried about?

Although we did pick a venue that was outside with a good backup rain plan, I spent a lot of time worrying about the weather. Ie, would it be too hot, too rainy, etc. I now realize that regardless of what had happened, it would’ve turned out to be the day we’d been dreaming of anyway!

How did you choose your vendors?

Mostly from Google searches and Wedding Wire

What is your very best advice to other mountain brides?

Keep your notes and finances organized, and it’s never to early to plan any wedding detail! I felt a little ridiculous doing some things as early as I did (ie bridesmaid gifts, buying all of my accessories, etc), but when it got closer to the wedding I was thankful for anything I’d already taken care of.
