6 Steal-Worthy Ideas for a Camp Wedding

Inspiration for Your Camp Wedding

I am totally in love with this camp wedding, captured by Kelly of Steep Street and originally featured on Green Wedding Shoes. The couple clearly put so much thought and love into crafting a camp wedding that was appropriate to the venue and spoke to their values. Katie and Cameron were also on a tight budget, so they held the wedding at a camp and built their theme around it, allowing them to take cost-saving measures without looking cheap. Here are my favorites:

1. Camp-inspired Wedding Invitations

Start with camp-inspired invitations with cute icons and wood-grain envelop liners. This sets the tone for your wedding, telling your guests that the wedding will be relaxed and casual and they can expect to have fun.

2. Sweet and Woodsy Ceremony Site

Dress up your ceremony site with fabric, streamers, fir garland and an area rug. This works for a camp wedding on a number of levels. The streamers make it crafty, and we all remember the crafts at summer camp. The fabric tapestry harkens back to a time when we all made blanket forts and tents as children. The fir garland is woodsy and fits the surrounding forest, and the area rug is a nice grownup touch without clashing with the overall woodland camp theme. Taken together, the tableau reminds me of the sweetest and most innocent love.

3. Wooden Wedding Signs

You’ve seen these everywhere, especially in rustic weddings, shabby chic weddings, and backyard weddings. But I can think of no more appropriate style wedding for these than a camp wedding. These types of signs really are used at camp.

4. Vintage Wedding Dress + A Lovely Low-key Suit

Sweet, low-key, and down-to-earth, this thrift store find fits so well into the causal crafty theme that Katie and Cameron were going for. So too does Cameron’s suit fit with the relaxed atmosphere. Let’s face it, while you are free to wear what you want at your wedding, a big ball gown and tux would look forced and out of place at camp. Stick to low-key wedding attire.

5. Tree Favors

Encourage guests to plant a tree in the spirit of honoring the forest. Even better, check with the camp to see if you could have a giant tree planting ceremony with your guests.

6. Crafty Time Capsule

Who doesn’t;t remember the arts and crafts at summer camp? Recreate that with an originally guest book. Set up a craft table and have guests create their own cards with advice to you. Seal the cards up in a “time capsule” and open it on your 1st, 5th, or 10th wedding anniversary.
