There are just certain things that are quintessential in any ski town: Uggs, snow, shot skis, plaid shirts, and Jagermeister. Kris and Jon managed to take all that is fun and carefree about a ski town and combine it with classic and traditional mountain wedding details like burlap, pine boughs and snow flake motifs. The result is an exuberant celebration within the tasteful context of a classic winter wedding. It’s just the type of wedding I love the most!
Kris and Jon chose Revelstoke because they are both avid snowboarders and enjoy weekend trips into the mountains. The couple choose Backside Tours, which does complete ski tour packages including transportation, lift tickets and lodging, to transport their guests on the 7-hour drive from Edmonton, Alberta to BC.
The couple opted for a morning ceremony so their guests could ski and ride during the day before the evening reception. The Ceremony was a traditional Catholic ceremony with Mass and a few Filipino traditions from Jon’s family.
Kris and Jon were lucky enough to secure the very first winter wedding at Revelation Lodge, the mid-mountain lodge on Revelstoke Mountain Resort. It’s typically only open for summer weddings. Because the lodge serves ski guests during the day, Kris had less 2 hours to set up and decorate.
Kris choose a traditional rustic alpine theme with classic winter colors, and Kris and Jon DIY-ed everything from invitations to their monogrammed burlap table runners.
From the Bride: Not one of our decorations were purchased ‘as is’ – all were hand made by either Jon and myself, or another member of the family. The highlight of our wedding décor was the handmade candle centerpieces that were created by my grandfather. All decorations were there to be taken, and almost all the table runners and candle holders were gone by the end of the night! We tried to keep with the ski theme in our reception as much as possible; for example, our tables were not numbered instead they were names of our favorite ski runs, and our first snowboards acted as our guestbook! Jon created custom stickers for our guests to sign, then they put them onto our snowboards creating a great keepsake for us. Jon and I also decided to have guests drink from a shot-ski instead of the traditional glass clinking to have us kiss. As a result, our guests were ready to party by the end of dinner! DJKing (Jon’s cousin and Jon’s uncle) provided a dance party that did not stop, and at the end of the night we had trouble convincing guests it was time to head down the Gondola back to the hotel!
On Sunday, the weekend wedding guests loaded back into the Backside Tours buses and were shuttled home. Kris and Jon stayed in the mountains for their honeymoon.
What an amazing weekend wedding in the mountains!
