Sweet Mountain Elopement in Hot Springs North Carolina

Hot Springs NC elopement | Photography Jo Photo
Nikki & Dave choose the Mountain Magnolia Inn in Hot Springs, NC for their intimate, destination mountain wedding. 13 guests attended the outdoor ceremony as the couple exchanged vows under a beautiful old tree, and JoPhoto was on hand to capture the entire day. Mountain Magnolia Inn is a restored 1868 Victorian estate. Hot Springs is located at the junction of the Appalachian Trail and the French Broad River in a valley surrounded by the Blue Ridge Mountains and the Pisgah National Forest.

Why did you choose the Mountains for your wedding?

The mountains are so beautiful and the view is amazing. Not to mention, we can go hiking.!

Wedding Day Weather

Sunny and a bit cool

Number of guests that attended

13

What was your theme for your wedding?

No theme really. Just the natural beauty of the mountains and to enjoy it with immediate family.

Where did you find your inspiration?

We found inspiration from the beauty of the mountains. Especially the beautiful Walnut tree! So unique, just like David and me.

Your budget

$8,000-$10,000

Biggest Splurge

Food and drinks

Biggest Savings

Flowers/Decorations. No need for too much since the mountains and Magnolia Inn itself is beautiful alone

How did you choose to personalize your wedding?

Well David and my favorite colors are blue and purple. We thought Turquoise and Lilac were perfect, given it is Spring time.

What was your favorite part of the reception?

Favorite part of the reception was the dancing and food! The food was absolutely delicious! Our chef was Zebb. David and I love to dance, but it’s not often we dance in front of the whole family. Then you top that with a beautiful view of the mountains while enjoying ourselves… perfect!

What are three things you’re super glad you did?

  • Got married at Mountain Magnolia Inn. Couldn’t think of a better venue! Mary Helen and her team are wonderful. So sweet and dedicated. I couldn’t ask for better!
  • Hired JoPhoto as our photographers. Kathleen and Joe are absolutely amazing and they are so sweet. They go above and beyond and I couldn’t appreciate them any more than I already have.
  • Our wedding only being immediate family. It was perfect that way

What was the biggest challenge in planning your mountain wedding and how did you overcome it?

Biggest challenge in planning would have been coordinating with everyone who was contributing to our wedding. A lot of back and forth and not knowing exactly how everything will look and fall into place come the big day. Everything turned out perfect. I just let the professionals do their thing.

How did you find and choose your vendors?

Well, for Mountain Magnolia Inn, it was between them, and a couple other venues. Mountain Magnolia was the second one we visited and we instantly fell in love. Nothing else could compare. Not only was it gorgeous out there, but they provided lodging, food, a wedding planner and the reception. Everything all in one.

We ended up with JoPhoto because I loved their website and pictures. They are located out of Knoxville,TN, so a little ways from Charlotte, NC but they responded to my inquiry right away and they are very affordable and so kind!

Dana Nagle was our florist and she is the daughter of the owners of Mountain Magnolia Inn. She is very knowledgeable and kind and I’m glad she was part of making David and I wedding beautiful.

Classic Event Rentals did our linens and was referred to us by Mary Helen, our wedding coordinator.

WoW Factor Cakes made our beautiful cake. I Googled them and they were voted one of the best on The Knot. I can see why!

What is your best piece of advice to other mountain brides who are planning their weddings?

You can’t go wrong with a mountain wedding! Try to get a venue that does everything in one place. It makes planning a lot easier!
