Julie and Philippe choose Deer Valley Resort in Utah for their classic, understated, early-summer mountain wedding. Julie opted for a classic look that wasn’t overdone. The couple let the natural beauty of the mountains shine on their wedding day.
Both Julie and Philippe love the color coral and sprinkled it through out the beautiful rustic lodge to add festive pops of color without taking away from the simple and elegant rustic beauty of the venue. They wanted to enhance it’s beauty instead of transform it, so they kept the decor to a minimum, but added a few key elements, including the Aspen Arch for the ceremony. They draped it with a white sash reminiscent of snow on the mountains. Logan Walker was on hand to capture every sweet and simple detail.

Deer Valley Clear skies spotted with one or two solitary clouds. Great visibility. Dry, mid 70’s. Spectacular!
Why a Mountain Wedding?

Were there any Do it Yourself (DIY) projects?
If so, can you describe them in detail? Most of the handed out material and gift bags were DIY. We wanted a particular look and feel to the programs, invitations, and gift bags, and it was hard to get it with the “stock” material we found in many of the places. So we designed a lot of the material ourselves, and used places like Wedding Paper Divas and Vista Print to print them out. Julie’s family was pivotal in the Gift Bags arena! They bought, and assembled all of them!
What were some personal details you incorporated?
We tried to make the weekend itinerary and the programs reflect our personality – informal and fun. I was really happy that Phil was cool with me incorporating a bride emoji into the wedding program! I have been using that emoji in my texts for months in anticipation of being the bride :)
What you would have done differently, if anything?
Announced that there was a photo booth, and saved some creme brûlée for us to eat later…
What’s your best advice for future mountain brides?
Get it all lined up and then sit back and enjoy and feel the love!
Where did you find your inspiration?
Julie and I really do work well together. We each had opinions about how things should be… I’m not going to say we compromised, because that sounds like we had to give something up… I want to say our whole was greater than the sum of the parts! Oh, and Google.
What was the best piece of wedding advice you got?
(This is Phil) Every ten or so minutes: Stop whatever it is you’re doing, and try to capture a mental image. The whole night will be a blur afterwards, so try and capture as much of it as you can!
Anything you wish you hadn’t worried about?
Serifs on fonts… :P
How did you choose your vendors?
Word of mouth and referrals. PC/DV is a “big-little town.” Everyone knows everyone. We started at Empire Canyon Lodge, and worked our way from there.
What is your very best advice to other grooms? Be involved. Be present. It’s your day too! The result is: you will have the most magical day of your life!
