I nearly fell out of my chair when I saw this amazing, fun, quirky, sweet trash the dress shoot, submitted by Marlise Kast-Myers and captured by Doug and Ashlee Wylie of DnA Wylie Photography and Dark Waters Photo. Um, did I use enough adjectives there? Because trust me, I’ve got plenty more, like hip, funky, cool, whimsical and completely unique. OK, for starters, I love the chucks. And the bride and groom are so natural in the water they’re like nymphs! And let’s face it, we’ve all seen the beach trash-the-dress session, which are cool. But for this mountain girl, I think a TTD sesh in a mountain stream is way cooler.

What do you get when you cross a surf photographer with a wedding photographer? Underwater wedding photos! Husband and wife photography team, Doug and Ashlee Wylie have recently joined forces to offer brides and grooms something truly unique.
Doug, a freelance surf photographer (www.darkwatersphoto.com) uses a Nikon D700 with a SPL Housing system to create underwater magic. As a wedding photographer, Ashlee (www.dnawylie.com) relies on her background in analog photography to capture vintage-style portraits with a 1940s Press Camera. In addition to underwater photography, the talented duo offers everything from traditional snapshots to the “Trash It” package, catering to brides who aren’t afraid to get a little dirty.
“In wedding photography, you tend to see the same shots used by many photographers,” says Doug. “We try and shake it up a bit. There is nothing like the instant stuff, it’s the essence of photography all bundled into a pack of film that develops instantly. From these images, we do various lifting and transferring methods that allow the images to take on a new depth of feeling.”
