Brett + Mark
October 05, 2012
Yosemite National Park, California

Picture this: A gorgeous bride full of natural glamour. A mixed with a simple, intimate woodland wedding. And one of the most treasured national parks in the Nation. Add in grand views of craggy mountains and granite domes and you have Brett and Mark’s delightful mountain wedding in Yosemite National Park.

Not only is this wedding sweet and lovely, but it’s also sensible. Brett is also had clear budgetary priorities about her wedding. She and Mark would not go into debt over it, and when they were deciding who to invite they agreed they wouldn’t invite anyone the other hadn’t met yet. Why A Mountain Wedding?

We chose Yosemite because its one of the most beautiful and magical places in the world. We knew we wanted to get married outside in nature with just a few people. This was a great reminder of what we believe a wedding is really about..the celebration of love and togetherness.

Where did you find your inspiration?

What were some personal details you incorporated?

We wanted everything to be earthy with an antique with a modern twist. (1800’s John Muir with modern details) We bought some of our favorite flowers and our family helped make flower arrangements, including my bouquet and Mark’s boutonniere. Our friend let us borrow a bunch of her antiques lanterns, bottles and lace for the rest of the decor. I borrowed my jewelry and made my own hair clip. I would definitely recommend being open to borrowing from others and to DIY projects

Your favorite moments:

  • Sitting outside at the dinner,
  • Visiting with our loving family and sharing stories.
  • Watching the sunset with just the two of us.

What are you glad you did?

We are really glad we had a small wedding and didn’t break the bank. This allowed us to spend our day with each other rather than catching up with a third cousin we probably won’t ever see again and it allowed us to go on a nice honeymoon without going into debt. When we were deciding who to invite we made an agreement we wouldn’t invite anyone each other hadn’t met yet.

What was the best piece of wedding advice you were given while planning?

The best advice I recieved was to not spend so much money that you are in debt after the wedding. There are so many other days and experiences you want to be able to have especailly if you are wanting a family soon after getting married.

How did you choose your vendors?

We chose vendors we were already familiar with and loved. That way there were no surprises.

Best Hindsight Advice

Try not to feel you have to get caught up in it all. All the “shoulds” about weddings. Don’t worry about pleasing everyone else… do what will make you and your partner happy on your wedding day. Have fun and enjoy every moment!

…and hire a great photographer, especially for a mountain wedding! You will have those pictures for ever.
