Fall in the Hudson River Valley | Engagement Shoot

A view of the Catskill Mountains from Montgomery Place

The Hudson Valley is one of those spots in our nation that totally captures my historical imagination. Inspired by the natural beauty of the area, and ease of travel along the Hudson River, America’s the first landscape artists settled here and founded a movement in American art called The Hudson Valley School. This was particularly significant to our young nation because, not long before, it wasn’t considered possible for a [former] colony to have enough cultural where-with-all to to inspire an artist or literary movement in its own right. The “REAL” artists came from Europe, not from upstart America. But the early nineteenth century saw many American artists and writers, and the Hudson River Valley became somewhat of a hub for artist’s retreats and colonies. Thomas Cole and John Fredrick Kensett painted some of our most treasured works of art, and Washington Irving set his Gothic stories The Legend of Sleepy Hollow and Rip Van Winkle in the Hudson Valley.

OK, the history lecture is over, hehe. But seriously, look at this venue; the elegance of the historic mansion, the romantic colors of fall and the lovely Catskill Mountains in background are a perfect combination of nature and culture. Thanks a million to Diane from Hudson River Wedding Photographer for submitting these.
