Enchanting Rainy Day Mountain Wedding at Snowbird Ski Resort

Snowbird Utah Wedding Logan Walker Photography

Lyric and Lincoln are the consummate mountain couple. They met and had their first date at Snowbird ski resort (one of my personal favorite places to ski, that and Alta, right next door!) And when Lincoln proposed, he did so in a hot air balloon high over Aspen Colorado. Their wedding was a heartfelt rustic modern fete right at the very place they met: Snowbird. How beautifully romantic!

Why a Mountain Wedding?

My husband and I spend a lot of time in the mountains together! We actually met through mutual friends and had our first date and Snowbird Ski Resort! And Lincoln purposed a year before we got married in a hot air balloon in Aspen Colorado during the Aspen Jazz Festival. We couldn’t think of a more perfect place to get married

What were some personal details you incorporated?

I wore my great grandma’s hairpiece in my hair and Lincoln and I wrote our wedding ceremony to fit how we feel about each other.

Old, new, borrowed, blue

Old: Grandmothers Hair Clip
New: My Shoes
Borrowed: My mom’s garter
Blue: My jewelry glistened blue.

Where did you find your inspiration?

Pinterest! Every girl loves Pinterest!

Actually, Lincoln and I both wanted our wedding to be timeless yet modern! I know they sound like oxymorons, but I think we were able to pull it off! For example, we went for a very modern look on our centerpieces which included lots of different vases of different shapes, but stuck to a very timeless set of white flowers. A lot of our decor was handmade by me and my bridal party! We spent lots of time looking for just the right pieces that would make our wedding perfect. We also opted to make a photo booth which ended up being a hit!

My color palette went through a lot of transitions but we finally decided on white, light grey and a soft lavender. We thought that these colors would be a great contrast to the green trees in the mountains and they also matched our theme of Timeless yet Modern.

Did you do a First Look before the ceremony?

We decided it would be best to do a first look before the ceremony! While it is always a girls dream to be seen by the groom for the first time walking down the aisle, it just isn’t practical. Having first look photos allowed us to capture an extremely intimate moment on camera. It was also great to have ALOT of extra time to take all the photos of the day that we wanted! We also got to spend more of our wedding day together and honestly what could be better than that!

The Ceremony

Ceremony music: Craig Chambers: Bridal Entrance: Ben Harper: Forever
Why did you pick Millcreek Inn for your ceremony? Millcreek Inn is a beautiful location located in a small canyon. We decided on this venue for several reasons! Since I was trying to plan a wedding out of state, we were looking for a venue that would take care of as many details as possible and this was Millcreek! They have a naturally beautiful venue that needs very little decor to make it shine for your special day! They also are known for their amazing food and believe me and all my guests, it was AMAZING! In addition to the beautiful venue and food, they also provided the linens, cake cutting, drinks, set-up and clean-up! All in all having our wedding at Millcreek Inn made our wedding planning very smooth.
Did someone escort you down the aisle? Yes, my father escorted me down the aisle. My dad and I are very close and I wouldn’t have it any other way!
Wedding programs? We opted out of wedding programs to save a few trees! Plus, we also had a wedding website at http://lyric-lincoln.nearlyweds.com/ where guests could find all our wedding information and gift registry.

The Reception:

Number of guests: 80
Describe your wedding flowers:
I choose all white Dahlia’s with dusty miller on the bottom for my bridal bouquet, and all Lavender wrapped in burlap for my brides maids. The centerpieces were an assortment of white and lavender flowers!
Wedding Planner: Me!
Wedding favors: We skipped on the wedding favors to save some money.
Wedding cake: We decided to do an all white cake for a timeless look. The cake also had white roses on top. To make the cake pop we decided to do a robins egg blue cake stand.
Appetizers: Chicken Duxelle, Pt. Reyes Crostini, Sea Scallops Ceviche
Reception Menu: Prime Shoulder Beef Tenderloin (Wild mushrooms and braised short ribs ragout, chard, red) New Zealand King Salmon (Macadamia crusted, Japanese eggplant, sweet peas, citrus sauce) and for our vegetarians Herbed Potato Gnocchi (Parmesan Reggiano, roasted heirloom tomatoes and, asparagus). The New Zealand King Salmon was absolutely amazing!
Favorite reception moment: The amazing toasts given by our closest family and friends and of course the DANCING!
First Dance Song: Raphael Saadiq: Just One Kiss

What was the weather like on your wedding day?

Oh man! This is a crazy question! Haha Well when I first woke up it was a light rain drizzle with lots of overcast. But, once it was time for photos at about 12:00 PM the rain stopped but we still had the heavy overcast. During our photos we felt like we were in Seattle. A thick fog started to creep in but we were able to get all of our pictures before incredibly thick fog filled the canyon. At this point I was pretty freaked out as I was not prepared for thick fog. However, it seemed as thought the weather gods were on our side. Once we got to Millcreek Inn the sun peaked out through the clouds and we were blessed with beautiful weather for the remainder of the evening.

Your favorite moment of the day.

All of it! But if I had to choose, it would be walking down the aisle looking at the man I am going to spend the rest of my life with!

The most unexpected event on our wedding day was:

The fog!

What piece of wedding planing advice do you wish you followed?

A rain plan!

What you would have done differently, if anything:

Not worried about the weather b/c in the end there was nothing I could do about it and it made my wedding even more special.

How did you choose your vendors?

Recommendations recommendations recommendations! If someone is willing to go out of there way to recommend someone, trust them, they are worth it!

What is your very best advice to other mountain brides?

Plan for changing weather and have a rain plan set in place that you will be happy with! This is something that I ended up doing only 2 days before the wedding and I wish I would have set it up prior to the big day!

Also, plan your transitions! This was a time of stress for everyone. Delegate who is going to carry what and who is in charge of driving certain cars ext. Trying to figure all of this out in a matter of minutes to stay on schedule is stressful but avoidable if you take the time to plan it out!
