Enchanted Forest Wedding in the Smoky Mountains

1 Spence Cabin Rennessee Wedding Johoho Via Mountainsidebride Com

Airren and Dustin chose the lovely Spence Cabin for their enchanted forest wedding with gold, blush and navy details. The Spence Cabin is deep in the smokey mountains, where there is no cell service and guests can truly relax and unplug in a beautiful, and dare I say magical, forest environment. Airren chose the amazing wedding photography team ,JOPHOTO years ago, when she saw their work on a wedding blog. And of course, they captured the day perfectly.

Why did you choose the Mountains for your wedding?

We wanted something intimate and serene. Our location was very peaceful and remote.

Wedding day theme:

We wanted a fairytale/enchanted forest theme with a Gold, blush and navy color palette.

Where did you find your inspiration?

Pinterest and my wonderful wedding coordinator Marvyl at Team Wedding

How did you choose to personalize your wedding?

Our vows had lines from Star Wars and my son walked down with a Darth Vader mask on.

What was your favorite part of the reception?

My first dance with my husband and my dance with my father

What are three things you’re super glad you did?

  1. Booked photographer first
  2. Hired a wedding coordinator/planner
  3. Wore sandals- not heels

Anything you wished you hadn’t worried about?

  1. I wanted to invite 10 people, not 75…
  2. We had a ton of party favors left over. Could have done without those.
  3. Stressed out so much over planning.

What was the biggest challenge in planning your mountain wedding and how did you overcome it?

We didn’t have cell phone reception at all. You lost service about 10 miles before reaching the location so several people really had to use their directions because GPS on their phones didn’t work and they could not call anyone. On the invitations I put the directions on the back and in bold letters I wrote “at this point you will lose all cell service, please bring directions with you”. I also made sure to post on Facebook and text as many people as possible to make sure they knew to print off directions instead of rely on technology. Only 5 or so people actually had an issue and got lost. But, hey, that’s pretty good out of 60.

How did you find and choose your vendors?

Several were friends, or connections I had through family. I chose my photographer about 2 years ago when I first found them on a blog and promised myself if I ever got married, they would be the ones no matter what. The other vendors came from my wedding planner.

What is your best piece of advice to other mountain brides who are planning their weddings?

Make it how you want it. Listen to no one but yourself. I constantly was trying to please everyone else. It’s your day, do as you wish. Plan for no cell phone service ahead of time. Walkie talkies would have been extremely helpful between our ceremony and reception site. We had zero way of contacting other than driving back and forth. Make signs for the road for your guest, you will have to ask the park rangers about the rules if it’s in a national park. If there’s a creek nearby, don’t be afraid to get wet, the pictures are to die for. Lastly, have fun and try to relax, after all, you are in the mountains.
