Elegant Estate Wedding in The Berkshires | The Mount in Lenox

Cordelia + Henry
May 19, 2012
The Mount, Lenox, MA

Different mountain regions are like people. They all have their own personalities and style. If The Berkshires were a bride, they’d be exactly like Cordellia: Sophisticated and elegant with a streak of easy-going outdoorsy charm. You’ll find arts and culture, fine estates, and deep history in The Berkshires. You’ll also find large swaths of woodland, soft, gentle mountains that roll, and the charm of an area that started as the far reaches of a farming frontier (we’re talking the 1600’s here). So if you’re tastes err on the side of elegance, but you still want a mountain wedding. The Berkshires may be the perfect solution. I mean seriously, check out this lovely wedding photographed by Sabine Vollmer von Falken and videoed by  Meg Simone!

Why a mountain wedding?

It wasn’t so much a mountain wedding we set out to do, it was rather a Lenox wedding. I was born in Western Mass and lived there until I was six years old. We now live in Boston, but have a lot of friends in NYC. Lenox seemed like a good spot between the two. It’s a beautiful area that made the wedding feel like a destination wedding, but was very easy to get to.

Where did you find your inspiration?

My inspiration came from The Mount itself. Deciding on the venue was the first thing we tackled, and it was important that all subsequent decisions enhanced the location rather than take away from it. I wanted the wedding to feel like a joyful garden party, and The Mount made that so easy.

What are three things you’re glad you did?

  • I’m glad I trusted my vendors’ taste and expertise -they were a fantastic team and made wedding planning easy and fun.
  • I’m happy we decided on a May wedding. While New England weather in May can be unpredictable, we had perfect weather, and I think our guests were glad to attend a wedding outside of the usual “wedding season” time frame.
  • I’m glad we decided to arrange transportation for our guests. Taxis are not easy to come by in small towns, and having shuttles let everyone relax and spend more time together.

Anything you wish you had done?

  • The only thing I wish I had done was relax a little bit more before the wedding; there really was no need to stress. But it’s easy for me to say that now!

Anything you wish you hadn’t done?

  • I can’t think of anything I wish I hadn’t done

Three things you wish you hadn’t worried about?

  • The scheduling/timing of the day. It’s in my personality to be concerned with details, but if something goes wrong (and luckily nothing did), you have to have faith that people will pitch in to fix the situation. No one wants the day to derail.
  • The weather. We were lucky with the weather, but even if it had rained, we had a decent back-up plan. What makes a wedding is the people there, not the weather.
  • Picking shoes. Honestly, no one really sees them!

What is your very best hindsight advice?

Etsy is your best friend for adding personal touches in unexpected places.
