{Eco-Chic Invitations: Buy and DIY}
Image by Bella Figura
According to Pantone, turquoise is the hot new wedding color for 2010. Not sure how Pantone decides these things, but when I saw this invitation from Bella Figura, I was like, "HELLO!"
Their website announces, "Because we want to make the world a better place, we're a wind-powered, carbon neutral, and eco-friendly letterpress shop, and we donate 1% of sales to environmental causes." Bella Figura prints on cotton paper and uses vegetable-based inks. Cotton paper is especially wonderful with letterpress because the letterpress makes such a deep impression on the paper
Looking to go green with your invitations?
- Look for papers make from alternative, renewable fibers such as hemp bamboo or cotton.
- Use 100% post consumer recycled paper.
- Choose eco-friendly inks. Most Ink is make from petroleum. Opt for soy-based or vegetable-based ink instead.
- Splurge on letterpress. Letter press printing is especially eco-friendly because letterpress printers hand feed their paper through the printer, cutting down on the energy
Eco-Friendly DIY Invitations
This is a bit trickier, but still doable.
- DIY Look out for seals FSC (Forest Stewardship Council) certified
- Green seal, which means the paper is at least 30% post-consumer fiber
- Green E certified paper, which means the paper is made with renewable energy, such as wind or solar power
