Estes Park Mountain Wedding with Tree Planting Ceremony

megan+david

Megan and David planned an outdoor tree inspired wedding in Estes Park.  It was the first place they drove to when we first started dating and they fell in love with it instantly. When it came time to planning their wedding, they focused on details meaningful to both them and their family. Instead of the usual unity candle at the ceremony, they chose to do a tree planting ceremony to represent their love of the outdoors.

Why a Mountain Wedding?

My husband and I met in Denver and have both always loved the mountains. Our first small trip was up to Estes Park, CO and we fell in love with the town and the mountains that surrounded it. We both love the outdoors and felt that a mountain/outdoor themed wedding perfectly represented us.

Where did you find your inspiration?

The fact that many brides post their weddings online has been a huge help to find inspiration. My mother, relatives, and friends all threw out ideas that helped me out a lot. I constantly was going to Hobby Lobby and Michaels to see if I could find anything cheap or inspirational there, and I managed to get a lot there that made my wedding above and beyond. (For example, I bought a large bird cage as a letter holder from Hobby Lobby half off, and now I can use it as a plant holder now that the wedding is over.)

What were some personal details you incorporated?

My husband loves his Marvel superheroes, so we decided to sub out the boutonnieres from flowers to action figures. We were able to find some of them at toy stores, and the rest were bought online, all relatively cheap. Looked awesome and allowed to give the groom a touch of his own.

Your favorite moment of the day.

The kiss! What else? The backdrop for your wedding will define your greatest moment ever. It will be in pictures all over your house, and relatives’ houses soon, so make sure you’re in love with the ceremony site.

Three things you’re glad you did.

  • I’m so glad that we decided to make items ourselves, such as the action figure boutonnieres, as well as some fans, and such.
  • That being said, I am also very thankful that we decided to order our centerpieces through our florist. It took a lot of stress off, and they turned out beautifully!!
  • The candy bar was an amazing success. It looked great, and was awesome for those with a sweet tooth (all of us ;) ).

Anything you wish you hadn’t done?

Worry! That was the worst part. Actually, for myself, the closer the day got, the calmer I became and worried so much less about all the unimportant details. All I knew was, as long as the groom was there, it would be a perfect day.

What was the best piece of wedding advice you got?

‘Relax, it’s all about you today!’ It’s true! Everyone is there to see you shine. Even if you’re hair is a little frizzy, or your shoes are scuffed, no one cares! You are still the most beautiful person in the room. (Hopefully) you only get one of these days, so just let the drinks keep coming and relax.

What piece of wedding planing advice do you wish you followed?

Start everything early! I got all my vendors out of the way early, but due to the fact my wedding was in a different state from where I lived, I put everything off to the last two weeks. Don’t do that! You don’t want to break out from stress! Make sure you leave yourself time to relax the week before your big day.

Anything you wish you hadn’t worried about?

I was constantly worried about being a bridezilla that I was letting other people influence my decisions more than I should have. Again, this is YOUR day, and about what you (and your hubby) want.

Anything You wish you had known about sooner rather than later?

Our DJ told us he had a large selection of country music, and ended up hardly having any. Double check to make sure he has what you want to play.

How did you choose your vendors?

Our ceremony/reception site had a list of vendors that they always worked with and ones they very much recommended. Double check with your ceremony/reception site to see if they have anyone that they would personally recommend. Make sure to read reviews before booking!

What is your very best advice to other mountain brides?

Everything I have said has been honest. I’m not sprucing it up or repeating something overly cliche. This IS your day. Don’t go bridezilla, but don’t be afraid to speak up for yourself. Make sure you get your husbands input. Don’t ask him about every little thing, because chances are, he won’t be very responsive. But I’m sure he doesn’t want to be surprised with an all pink wedding. Lastly, give yourself a break from the wedding business. Take a night out with your fiancé, have an amazing dinner, a walk around town, tell him you love him, and talk nothing of the wedding.

Ceremony/reception: Della Terra Mountain Chateau. LOVED them. They went above and beyond for our wedding and helped make it perfect.

Florist: best day floral design. Sharon was amazing and did exactly everything that I asked for perfectly.

Cake: intricate icings. I can’t say enough great things about Rachel and her amazing cakes!! Our cake was absolutely gorgeous and was soo delicious too!

Photographer: Autumn, Dash photography. Autumn made sure to get every moment that we were looking for and considered the ‘style’ we were going for. The photos turned out beautifully.

I LOVE the cake! I loved it before I realized the bird was a match of her tattoo, and then I loved it even more! The whole day is beautiful, but the cake… takes the cake!

What a beautiful wedding! My parents just got back from Estes and they RAVED about it. I hope to see it someday too!

I just love the bird details on the cake. This should go in the dictionary under “fairy tale wedding!”

Vibrant green and dark brown give the wedding a very rustic yet elegant feel that’s elevated by the brides beautiful white sequin gown. Truly the standout in a spectacular setting. The invite holders were such an inspired choice and really contribute to the organic and natural wedding scene. Great pics!

Can anyone tell me where the mother of the bride got her dress? I love it!
